Kids Older RH RPMs on Newer RH

Can I use a RPM written for an older version of RH on a newer RH version?

Thanks

sometimes

Typically, if there are dependancy problems like the desired RPM requires somelib.so.1 but in your /usr/lib file there is only the newer library called somelib.so.2 you can get around this by creating a symlink with the needed library name that points to the newer library.

As in the above case you could do this at the command line:

#ln -s /usr/lib/somelib.so.2 /usr/lib/somelib.so.1

now your rpm should install and actually work --hopefully

Thanks

Hmm, perhaps it will be better to download the source code and compile it myself. I still have go though whatever documentation they have to learn how to do this (I'm still a noob).
