Disabling a wireless router

Okay I am going to be living in a rented house at school next semester. In this house the guy that owns it made it totally wired. There is a router I don't have physical access to in the basement. I'd really like to have a wireless connection in my room. Each room is connected to this router and this router is the internet connection for the house. I saw a netgear router on amazon for cheap. I was wondering if anyone knew anything about this. I know you can't daisy chain two routers. Can the router function be disabled and have the wireless part still work?

Hit the nail on the head Jason. Wireless AP's are nice.....I just dont like the fact that I keep losing connections from mine(the connection comes and goes) And I am 15 ft away max. from my AP....

Access points are really expensive. The only ones I've seen are around 100 dollars, looked at googlegear and newegg. Are there any places that have cheaper ones?
