Can you convert NTFS to FAT32?

Here's my question. I am running XP Pro with NTFS, my friend has a 98SE machine on FAT 32.

Is it possible to move my music files(copied to a small slave drive on my machine, then slaved to his machine) from my machine to his?

I didn't know if the NTFS, FAT32 thing would cause a problem. Is it possible to revert back? Are MP3's and other music files stored in some manner that I couldn't do this?

Yes. You can move your MP3's to his machine. No problem. I do it all the time. I transfer files from my XP NTFS system to my son's W98SE FAT32 system.

cant go back after converting.

Hmm, I think you can just drag and drop them though using the slave method you described.

Or set up a network.

If all you want to do is copy files over a network, partition type makes no diff. TCP/IP protocol will happily copy the file over.

That what you mean?

Cheers
Mick

edit: ah, got it now. Yep, will go from NTFS to FAT32 no worries. You can even do it the other way if both are NT kernel OSes, I think.

Yup

Yeah, completely doable. Transferring files over the network is no problem, or you could even stick both drives in one computer and transfer the files that way, if you don't have a network. However, that last option requires a little more technical expertise. The TCP/IP protocol doesn't care what format your hard drive is, or what format the receiver's hard drive is. It just sends the info, and lets your computer decide how to file it.

I got the answer I was hoping for. No network, I have to do the slave thing like I mentioned. Plus, I'm moving around 5 gig of music.

you can't convert, but you can transfer.

FAT32 to NTFS ok
NTFS to FAT32 nope

Um, joker, you got it backwards, I think. Unless you use a 3rd part app, win9x can't read NTFS partitions at all.

Cheers

Yeah, I'm just looking to move MP3's from an NTFS machine to a FAT32 machine.

Network seems like your best bet, unless you use WindowsXP for transferring the files, and put yout FAT32 HD back into our other system.
