can't see other computers in workgroup, but I can directly access them... help plz

I'm having a wierd problem at work....

I can't see other computers in the workgroup "work1", but I can directly connect to those computers...

by this, I mean that if I type "\\comp1", it's shared folders and everything comes up... I don't know why this would be happening or if I have any control over it.

can anyone help explain this to me?

Do you mean you can't see them in "Network Neighborhood"? If so this is quite normal. The browser built into windows (not the web browser) is less than reliable. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. There is nothing wrong with your network.

that's a bit vague for me.... is there any other type of browser that I can use to do this?

Network Neighbourhood is about as practical as a one legged man in an a$$ kickin contest,

I have a wireless XP network at home, can't see a darn thing despite settings tweaks but I can download from all 4 of the things!

As long as you know the addy's and can access the info, what is the prob?

I'm not the only one who uses this network... and the others are not as savvy () as me....

they don't remember computer names and stuff until they see the list... sad but true

Are you certain they are in the same workgroup?

Sometimes if you do a search for the comp, it will magically show up in NN.
