For $29 more you could get an ATI 9500 Pro and OC it to that of a 9700 Pro http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...codevalue=4434

I've been looking for the same thing in the same price range and here is what I am going to choose from:
TYAN Radeon G9600 PRO 128MB DDR SDRAM Video Card with VGA out/ DVI-I, S-Video, Model# G9600 PRO $163 shipped from Newegg.com
GAINWARD/CARDEXPERT GeForce 4 Ti 4800SE8X AGP, 3.6ns, 128MB DDR $164 shipped from Newegg.com
From what I understand these should run halflife 2 just fine.

As far as mainstream components go, right now ATI is dominating the market with the Radeon 9600 Pro, low cost, high functionality, and insane overclocking potential. Nvidia's, the 5600 Ultra, counterpart is no where near the performance of the 9600 Pro. Another factor that you have to think about when you buy the 5600 Ultra is if the vendor sells the new revision which has a core and memory speed boost that puts it almost on par with the Radeon 9600 Pro, however, even that won't justify it as the price difference is more than enough to say, I want the Radeon because it's cheaper and faster.
I'd definetly buy that Tyan video card if you're going to upgrade, forget the Radeon 9500 Pro and overclocking it and flashing it with the BIOS. Read this article from [H]ard|OCP about the Tyan card. It overclocks far beyond your expectations.

| Run fine? Yes. Run top end? Only the radeon. The ti4800 is DX8, it cant do the fancy efx the radeon can do(cuz its DX9).

thanks so much for all the replys, i really dont care about running ultra top of the line, as i doubt my computer will run that anyway, that is without overheating and killing me in a fiery explosion
i was looking and will probably get the geforce fx 5600 128mb card, i think, some website showed it had longer green bars representing FPS than the other one =/

<------------- | Interesting.... very interesting. You voice your opinion on something you don't have any experience on. AFAIK, you say that you have a Radeon 9000 (PRO?), yet you continually state overclock and flash your card to the 9800 Pro. Why don't you stop randomly posting things. I've had about enough of all this crap that among other members that keep posting about, ranting and raving about baloney they have no clue about. I certainly am losing my paitence on this utter nonsense and visit TIMO on a less frequent basis. Still, this community is based on an "In my opinion" and there's too much fluff to what half these posts have to say. I for one, don't know half as much as many members here, but this is becoming rediculous.
