XP1.7 @ 58C Idle!!!

Hi, I have just built a new pc for a client based on a 1.7XP with a L7VTA ECS mobo.

Everything works 100% fine stable etc. The problem is that the bios reports that the cpu is running at 58 degrees C Idle.

I set the bios to shut down the pc when the chip hits 60, then ran 3dmark for about 4 hours continuously. Surly, if it was that hot idle, it would have tripped a shutdown running 3dmark.

I have downloaded motherboard monitor 5.3, but it wont report any temps. I have looked through the settings, and it thinks the chipset is sis whereas it's via.

Any ideas on a proggy that will display temps on this mobo, or if you know how I can adjust the settings on mbm.

Is the bios likely to be right?, I personally think that it can't be.

I have checked the hsf etc, all fitted ok...

Any help would be great...

win2kuser,

Try this one for size . I use it at home on my 3000+@2300 and it does pretty good.

Thanks for the link dustyrun - Downloading as I type.

I gave up with mbm, I had a tweek with the settings and it thought the chip was running at 82C and promptly shutdown. Had a right nightmare disabling it fast enough on reboot.

Running aida32, it shows 3 sensors:
sensor 1 @ 30c - presumable the mobo temp
sensor 2 @ 50c - presumably the chip (running at 100% load)
sensor 3 @ 6c to 62c up and down like a *********** - something sure aint right with this one

The sensor 2 is around where I would expect it to be (a little high perhaps) as I am running FaD dc client which pushes the cpu use to 100%

Must be a mobo thing - I have never used these ECS mobo's before.

Thanks again...

jeez .... 58c? my 3200+ runs at 38c

and why would you buy a 3000+ and run it at 2300+?

why not buy a 2200 or a 2400??

do they make a 2300?

58C is not right, I have put a probe on the hsf as low as I can get it to the chip and it says 28c - There is NO WAY that chip can be that hot. The hsf itself feels cold, if the chip was that hot, the hsf would also be a tad warm

I think what dustyrun means is that he has overclocked it to 2300 fsb which would make it about a 3400+ as the 3.0+ runs at 2100fsb

My 2.5 barton runs at 11x200 = 2200fsb which = 3200+

Might try Speedfan as well as it also reports temps.
I was tired of tweaking the settings in MBM and speedfan is an easy set it and forget utility.
I'll have to try Ricks linked utility to see how that one works out.
I do not have that model mobo, I do have the famous (or infamous) K7S5A ver 1 board and temps appear to OK.

EDIT for linky http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php

Hmonitor doesn't do too bad. there is even a setting where you can set the bias for the temps if you know what they are and it isn't reading correct. And yes my 3000+ is running at 11.5x200
= 2300 mhz.
I will try fanspeed when I get home also.
