Is there an issue with NFS Hot Pursuit 2????

Okay, I've had Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2 for quite some time now, but it is driving me crazy.

No matter what I do, the grapics slow down and get jerky.

Here is my system:

WinXP Home w/all patches( kinda suspecting one of these)

Koolance case with EVERYTHING liquid cooled and running at 81 degrees F

P4 2.66 w/533 FSB on Intel board w/768m RAM PC800

ATI Radeon 9700 Pro

WD 120gig 7200 rpm 8meg cache hard drive

Seagate 80 Gig 7200 rpm hard drive

Samsung cd-rw

Aopen dvd

600 watt power supply

Now I have tried everything I can think of. Shutting down Norton AV and firewall. Latest drivers. I even overclocked the ATI to 400mhz cpu and 350mhz memory!

Is anyone else having issues with this game, or do I need to look further.

Oh yeah, one other annoying thing. My ATI Radeon 9700Pro is installed twice. If I remove either one of the installations that Windows sees, it will re-install it at the next reboot and I can't stop it

Thanks !

It's not the card. What's wrong with a 9700 Pro???? Okay, I'll take a 9800, that is, if you are buying

I talked with ATI today and the reason that it is listed twice in the device manager is because it does dual monitors. You learn something new every day!

I still say it's with the game. NFS Porsche Unleashed does similar things in my system.

Oh well, I guess I'll just stick with UT2003.........

do you have Vsync enabled? [if yes, then turn it off, if not, then turn it on]

have you tried at a high resolution and high detail? sometimes you need to really crank the graphics to keep the game out of the 100+FPS region which can cause increases in game speed or jerkyness.

pshooo, what is your AGP aperature size? 256 or 512MB would be optimal.

do you have video bios decompression [shadowing] enabled?

Motherboard drivers installed/up to date?

there are a lot of factors, these are some that i can come up with off hand, good luck!

Thanks DPA.

Some of those suggestions, such as turning up the resolution, I didn't even think of.

The AGP aperature is 128. Thanks to my fun Intel board, I can't change things like that. It's all automatically configured

The video bios is shadowed and I do have ALL the updated drivers for everything in the system.

I can play UT2003 without any problems, so that leads me to believe it is a game/my system issue. Maybe I'll install it on my AMD 2100+ XP system with a GF3 64meg and see what happens. If it runs well over there, than something just isn't right with the world.......

Video bios should NOT be shadowed.

That's my mistake Outpatient. I assumed it was. Doh! After going through the bios, I realized that this mobo doesn't list that.

I did a 3dmark2003 test again and only got 2911!!!! Just last month I had 5800+. I think I know what I have to do.... Reformat and re-install. This problem came up about two weeks ago and that coincides with three things:

Windows automatic update
I cleaned house on some old files.
I installed a cheap program my friend bought so he could see if it worked. I know, I should know better.

I tried a system restore, but it didn't help, so that makes me think I deleted something important. Doh again! I will also not use automatic updates for windows anymore. I will pick what/when I want to install....

That being said, when my system was running at it's peak, 5800+ 3dmark2003, there were still some graphics issues with NFS Hot Pursuit 2. Not as much as right now, but the NFS games have always given me some graphics issues whether it was my old GF4 Ti4600 or the ATI Radeon 9700 Pro........

I'll keep you all posted as to the results of my upcoming re-install adventure
