running 2 anti virus programs

i dont now if this can be done, would the 1 AV pick up the 2 AV as an infected file or is it possible to run 2 at the same time,

It is a sound concept, but it can cause problems. The biggest one is that you will suffer a HUGE memory hit, especially if both are set to scan at the same time (ouch!). There's also the piossibility that one AV program will see the definitions file for another AV program is infected and attempt to 'fix it', wreaking havoc.

What 2 AV programs are you running?

It's not a good idea to run two AV's at one time. Also, one AV might detect the others AV's quarantine as viruses. A good option would be to just do an online scan every little while. Panda and Trend both offer good ones.

It's bad to have two AV resident scanners installed and active at the same time. You can have two file scanners installed, just don't run both simultaneously AND be careful that you don't have them set to automatically fix files that they think are infected otherwise you will kabosh one or both of them.

I would agree with most posts here, having two AV in the same OS at the same time is really not a good idea, even if it sounds like it would be better. I alos thought like you, so I installed both Mcafee and Norton in my Windows XP and I regret until today because it totally made everything slow, and one time all freezed, so I repooted, and I couldnt access my XP anymore. So I needed to format my computer and I lost everything I had! So I wouldnt do it, you can maybe have more luck than me, but I wouldnt take the risk if I was you. Just to let you know

Just run one primary AV on your system and run an onlne scanner such as trendmicro, Panda, etc.. I also agree running two is not a good idea. There are some that won't even allow you to install when there's already one installed on your syste...

I would ditch Norton and get an anti-virus that doesn't make you pay for every year of updates. AVG (www.grisoft.com) is a good one, and I think Panda is like that as well.

I agree with Redwolf. AVG is free, low on resources and very effective if you keep updated.
