Werid Print Problem

HI Gang,

I got me here a strange printing problem. Not sure what to make of it.

First:
Windows 2kpro
Mem: 256
HDD: 30gig (tons of room left)
Printer: Canon MultiPass C755

I am going to try and explain what its doing.

In Quark: It prints fine and perfect.

Excel/Word/Notepad: It looks like it chops the top half of the font off and it also comes out very blurry.

Faxes come out the same was as the excel/Word/Notepad documents as well as trying to photocopy a page.

Paint: I made a smily face with lots of room in between the eyes and such. However the circle itself got smashed to oval shaped and not clear print, The eyes the bottom half were cut off as well as the top half of the round nose. I had plenty of space in between these eyes and nose. however if you take a ruler and lay it down where the bottom half of the eyes got chopped it will meet on the same line as were the top half of the nose is. They are half circles. The mouth a straight line at an angle printed fine.

Its as if someone just "cut" out the middle portion of the picture.

What I have done: clean the heck out of the print heads using the head cleaning feature. Also have ran the head alignment thingy as well as the roller cleaner.

I have also uninstalled the entire software to the printer as well as the drivers and did a throral cleaning of the computer (it had a bunch of trojens, virus, worms and backdoors.

I also know that this particular printer has bad reviews. when they bought it a year ago I had advised against it. but did they listen to me? Noooooooooooo. So im stuck with troubleshooting it.

I have also ran through the trouble shooters. It does ask if you can print from CMD line. I am assuming this is a non-postscript printer and it does not print from cmd line. what it told me to type was dir > lpt1 it does nothing.

Cables are secure and everything else is in order. Is it possible that the quark program which prints flawlesslessly can cause this problem?

Also they use the generic print cartridges. they have always used generic without any problems till this last batch that got put in about 2 weeks ago. I am also inclined to think it may be bad print cartiridges and plan to get some more new ones and test it with the genuine. However that doesn't make sense that everything in Quark prints out perfect like it should.

So looking to all you guys for some advise on what can do.

Thanks.

Could be dirt in the roller gears/belt thingie. Or the paper feed is jamming a bit.

Is it connected by USB or parallel?

If it's parallel, did you check the whole cable for crush/cut injuries?

[Edit: Did you also try it on a windows standard driver? What happens then? ]

Okay to answer some questions here.

Steve: I thought it could be a weird paper jam thingy but somehow I don't think so as things print out just fine through the Quark program. but anything else it does not.

CBB: its connected via Parrellel and there are no injuries or cuts to the cable. As with windows standard driver yes I have tried that. Same thing either way. Canons drivers or windows.

Meese: In BIOS the part for LPT & Com its selected as LPT/COM
the IRQ's for thse are:
IRQ7: LPT1
IRQ5: LPT2
IRQ4: COM1
IRQ3: COM2

However If i go to the system Information and look up the IRQ's the printer port is not listed there nor is IRQ7 which according to bios should be at 7.

Well there is definatly a gap in the printing. I managed to get a decent test print page, however when i printed my smily face I made it totally left out the eyes and just left that section out all together.

Then i tried an excel spread sheet and what ran over the sides got printed right on top of the first page with a visible area that should include text and its just gone. like if it resized it self or something.

Or the printer is cursed.

How is the printer port configured in the BIOS? Is it:

Standard (SPP)
Bi-directional (EPP)
ECP
or
ECP+EPP

or ist it something different?

Next thing I would do is try the printer on a whole new machine!

I take a laptop to every job I do, just for situations like this!

oh hehehe that is what you meant mease.
Can tell I don't know anything about printers.

Heres what I found.

Onboard Parellel Port [378/IRQ7]
Parellel Port Mode [ECP + EPP]
EPP Mode Select [EPP1.7]
ECP Mode use DMA [3]

I may connect it to laptop and see if it does same thing. Just trying to figure all out with its normal comptuer before that.

Process of elimination!

If it works fine on the lappie, then it ain't the printer, it's the pc setup!

Based upon many happy hours of playing.............
