I can't get Zone Alarm to work

When I install it and run it, it says there is an error. ZA says its "TrueVector" security service is shut down. How do I start that damn thing up? What the heck is wrong with ZA?

Go into services and see if you can manually start the service. Do you have any other personal firewall programs installed?

If you can't manually start the service I would recommend uninstalling and then reinstalling.

BTW: Off topic but I like your avatar. I think that Alyson Hannigan is very cute.

If you haven't already try rebooting, sometimes my ZA will say that, a simple reboot fixed it.

They can't be started because "The dependency service or group failed to start"

What the hell does that mean?

I already have Sygate Personal Firewall installed but it's turned off right now.

Hi Shawn,

Double click on the True Vector service and then look on the tab called "Dependent Services" or "Dependencies" or something like that. See if there is anything listed. If so make sure those services are running. I had problems before where I disabled a service I didn't think I needed but the true vector service needed it.

Try reinstalling ZA. ZA is known for this problem. Do a search in google and you'd be surprised how lucky you are getting away with just the "True Vector" error. There are many out there where the system reboots on its own alomg with this error...

I've read in different places where you have to completely uninstall one firewall to get the other to work right. Try uninstalling Sygate and then installing ZA. It should work then.

You may need to completely uninstall Sygate first, including registry entries, to get ZA working properly...

If W2K, make sure before doing a clean install of ZA, you uninstall all traces of Sygate including any virtual drivers in the TCP/IP stack and removing registry entries.

[Please backup your registry before accessing it.]

Completely uninstall ZA.

Also, if W2K, goto Control Panel - Add/Remove Hardware, tick Uninstall/Unplug - Uninstall - and tick the "Show Hidden Devices" in the 'Installed Devices" list box.

Remove "vsdatant" and "TrueVector Internet Monitor" if they are still present. *Check for any leftover Sygate stuff, too, and remove.

Reinstall fresh ZA. Then, if you still need Sygate for networking, reinstall Sygate.

This is what I would try.. hth and gl

*Edit, added.
