Several general 802.11b questions

I have broadband now, finally. So I have several comps hooked up thru a router. I also have a couple other routers, one being wireless.

I want to hook the wireless router up to get some experience with it.

Basically my main question is.

"what is the basic deal with wireless security?"

I always see 64 and 128bit WEP...but is that even remotely very secure? If not, what ELSE would need to be done to make a business or home wireless network secure?

Also, is there anything necessarily 'wrong" with usb wireless adapters..such as this one http://www.compusa.com/products/prod...87283&pfp=cat1

Seems to me a usb would be better for a desktop as opposed
to one of those gay pci cards with the antenna stuck in behind the comp all blocked out etc. Cuz you can put the usb on a longer cable perhaps and move the antenna to a better spot.

Thanks, JP

Unless you have a WPA capable router, 128 bit WEP is about the best you can do. You could try setting up a VPN for your wireless stuff, but that's beyond anything I can explain.

Just FYI, I had lots of problems with Linksys's USB wireless adapter. I switched to a wireless bridge and have not had a problem since.
