Yesterday my friend came over and brought his computer. I plugged it all in and went for the power button. The instant I pressed the bottom the computer made a weird sound and a big blue spark shot out of the back of the case. The power supply was the only component that was no longer working. What could cause this to happen?
edit:
BTW I checked the switch and it was set to the proper setting (115v)
possible during the trip something touched it shouldn't of then when you powered it on... well the rest is histroy
My PSU also died yesterday.. but alas no light show

Bad capacitor! I had the same thing happen to one of mine. Hit the power button and a big blue spark lit up the back of the case. I took the PSU apart and found a fried capacitor. Boy did it stink too.
I had the same thing happen after bringing my m-i-l's computer home to fix. I ook it apart after the smoke ckeared and, like Vass said, a couple pieces had gotten together. Thankfully that's all that blew, board and everything else was fine.
