I've crashed! Plz help (XP)

Well, I'm an idiot, just like in the post I started last night

I needed a cd out of a drive, so I plugged it into the power on my main computer. While it was on.

When I turn it on now, It tells me to select a user, like normal.. Only problem is there are no users to select from. I tried safe mode, I tried clearing the cmos, I tried recovery console.

Problem w/ the recovery is that it asks for an admin password. I never entered one when I set it up! Is there a default admin password? If not, then am I just totally hammered?

On a side note:

If I end up having to reinstall, someone please point me to a tut that will tell me how to put xp on a different partition than all my other files. (I know, I know, closing the barn door after the horse got out).

Thanks,

your fellow imoer,

jmemoron

Sounds like you may have done permenant damage to your CDROM drive. Hot-plugging a drive usually brings bad news. Hopefully this action didn't damaag anthing else on the system..

It's not the drive I'm worried about
It didn't work in the first place, that's why I took it out w/ the disk still in. I'd rather lose the drive than all my info too.
Everything else still seems functional, all the drives and the processor and stuff are still normal.

Use your hardrive's software tp partition the drive. Then install XP on the primary partiton and use the other(s) for your programs files.

how large should I make the xp partition?
It'll just show as a C: and D; drive, correct? Then I just put all my garbage on the d:, drivers and evrything and leave the c: only for windows updates and the like?
