Sony DRU-510A Compatible Media?

Does anyone else out there own a Sony DRU-510A DVD±RW Drive?

I've had mine for about a week, and have yet to be able to burn a single DVD properly. I'm trying to backup data files, and I've had no luck. I've used the Simple Backup that's included with the drive -- no luck. I've tried Stomp's Backup MyPC -- no luck. I've tried Retrospect 6.5 -- no luck.

So then I tried new media. TDK DVD+R 4x discs -- no luck. Sony DVD+r 1x-4x discs -- no luck.

The "utility" they've got on their web site seems to think the drive is okay, but I'd hate to think it's this picky about the media it uses!

Anyone else having problems? Help!!

Okay, I have gotten one brand to work: Verbatim DataLifePlus DVD+R 2.4x speed. Bought them at Sams. Be careful, there are DataLife and DataLifePlus. From what I've read, the regular DataLife aren't good. The Plus is what you want.

FYI, this test was done with the Simple Backup program that ships with the drive. BUMP didn't accept the discs.

I have the DRU-500 with the firmware upgrade that makes it a 510. I haven't had any problems burning discs using Imation, Memorex, or Sony + or - DVDs. I use Nero Burning Rom though.
