fx 5200 ultra - Monitor goes blank after splash screen

Hey....

I'm running a 2.4 Pentium 4 800 FSB, on an ECS motherboard, 648FX-A with 256 MB of ram.

My problem: I can only boot into safe mode after installing the drivers for my card. When I boot up, after the windows splash screen, the monitor loses signal. I've tried all the normal stuff, reseating the card, setting the refresh rate to 60hz, and the screen to 640x480 8-bit and it still refuses to start up properly. Now heres where it gets weird... it worked once, after I reseated the card, but then on the next boot, it messed up. Next I tried switching to the second monitor port... again... worked once, then next time, didn't. I switch back to the first port, worked once, then didn't... finally, I realized, that if I just unplug the monitor, and plug it back in before I boot up... it always works. I can do this, not touch a thing, restart the computer and I get the lost signal again. Any suggestions on what to do? I've tried almost everything, different drivers for card and monitor, almost every setting

Thanks in advance, I appreciate it

Get a CHEAP 4x or 8x video card and try that first. I built a computer and changed monitiors( had a Radoen card ) and it would not boot . Got a different video card ( Nvidia )and has been running ever since. Good Luck

Welcome , hope things work out

I had the same problem with my Pixelview FX5200. Turns out it didn't get along with my Muse 5.1 DVD soundcard. I would try to bootup and would never get past the windows xp logo screen.

I thought it was the videocard , so I wiped my whole drive and started again. Come to find out it was the soundcard. Removed the soundcard and everything was well again.

I have tried to move the soundcard to another slot but that doesn't work either. I had the problem fixed, but decided to update the soundcard drivers for my Muse, and the problem came back again.

I would try pulling all my cards one at a time, to see if u can boot. Don't do a reinstall until u try that first. Anyone know a fix for this? I have onboard sounds on this motherboard, but my Muse sound awhole lot nicer!

Oh I did remove all the soundcard drivers, and reinstall the soundcard, I was able to do that, and reboot. WinXp saw the card and asked for the install disk. I load the install disk with the drivers for the soundcard, and install.

Now comes the problem WinXp needs to reboot so the hardware will work. If I reboot I get the problem of not booting into windows again. If I don't reboot everything works well, but I can't shut down my computer.

Oh I tried to bootup with another video too, it would not boot past the logo screen either.

I had a HARD time installing the drivers for a Muse sound card on my daughter's computer when I installed XP. Said it would install but would probably cause problems, but so far it hasn't. Ashamed all things can't work together...

I had a Geforce 2 card in the slot before, it works fine, as far as other cards, thats it, my sound card and ethernet card is onboard the motherboard. What I don't understand, is why unplugging and replugging the monitor causes it too work. It'll boot up once fine, then after that, I have to repeat the process.

I just installed the interage geForce 5200 over the w/end, had problems with it at first I couldn't get a screen it was fuzzy then it worked then went blank. I tried switching the plugs and also the refresh rates as well. Still nothing. I eventually just had to extend my desktop to the 2nd monitor and now it works. Not sure why that made a difference but it works now. I also downloaded the new drivers as well.
