Making the 9800 np run at pro speeds?

I am considering buying an ATI Radeon 9800 non-pro. I have heard that people can make it run at pro speeds? Exactly how would I do this? Thanks for any help!

I heard that buying a 9700 PRO is a better buy than the 9800 np.

No no the 9800 is faster then the 9700 Pro. You can softmod the 9800 non pro to he speeds of a 9800 Pro but it will still not be as fast.

If you want to unlock the Radeon 9800 NP to make it a pro then flash the cards BIOS and put the 9800 Pro BIOS on it.

The 9800 and 9800 Pro both have 8 pixel pipelines. The 9800 SE has only 4.

I bought myself a 9800 np, it was only $250 and a huge upgrade from my Geforce 2 mx. The standard clockspeed of the 9800 np is 310/295, while the Pro is 380/340. If you're lucky, when you check out the memory on the 9800 pro card, you have the Samsung 3.3 ns or 2.8 ns memory. Which is what is used in the 9800 Pro. I got the stupid infineon 3.0ns memory. I flashed it with the 9800 Pro bios anyway, but had to underclock the RAM to 330 Mhz. It runs like a dream. I was unimpressed with the standard 9800, but after my tweaks, I'm quite pleased with my purchase. 5570 in 3Dmark2003, and a near constant 60 fps in the Doom 3 alpha.

Excuse my English, I am still learning.

Swells is right.

9800se

4 Pixel pipelines, 1 TMU per pipe
275/275 (core/mem)
128 bit DDR

9800

8 Pixel pipelines, 1 TMU per pipe
325/310
256 bit DDR

9800 Pro

8 Pixel pipelines, 1 TMU per pipe
380/340
256 bit DDR

9800 Pro 256mb

8 Pixel pipelines, 1 TMU per pipe
380/350
256 bit DDR-II

The regular 9800 is faster than the 9700 Pro.

If you have 2.9ns memory or better, you should have no trouble getting it up to 340mhz. The infineon 3ns should go to 333 mhz.

Just flashed my saphire 9800 np with the pro bios. No problems at all. It has the 3.3ns samsung ram. I gave the agp slot a little more voltage (1.6) just to make sure it would not crash, but it worked fine and I set the juice back to default. Good luck.
