system resource memory in red tried everything

I'm trying to figure out a problem with my friends compaq 5bw220,running ME, in systems resource her memory (63.0MB) is highlited in red, I formated her partitioned C/D drive, and deleted all files, also minimized start up items, getting disc space at 88% free,also removed her AOL, ran scan disc, ran defrag, and memory is still highlited in red. aside from this unit being a piece of junk, can you help?, thanks for your time . firefly

uh maybe me doesn't think thats enough memory? or maybe some of it is bad. have you run memtest?

Well, she definitely needs more memory..but that isnt the only problem... resources and memory arent exactly the same anyway.

After a reboot, when you do control-alt-delete...what all shows as running?? How many programs?

When you right click "my computer" and click on "properties" then "performance"..what does it show for "system resources"?

Like stated above system resources & memory are very different. Most
system resource problems are due to a program running & eating up
resources like it should. But after it’s been shut down the program will
not give back the resources. I bet if you did a fresh windows install
everything would be working fine. Until you start re-installing the
same programs, that is.

thanks for helping people, the unit was working fine with 64 mb and me, until her brother in law dl. a lot of crap, I don't know how to do a mem test,I have start up items at min. in my comp. prop. it says this comp. operating at peak performence,he also took her copy of ME.
