Video game and shut down problems

Hey all,

I have two problems for you. One, my computer won't play my video game on my laptop and it says general protection fault or something like that. Even if I have the settings on the lowest. I installed Direct X 9.0 if that makes a difference?

My second problem is not really a new one but what happens is it hangs a long time before it shuts down especially if I've been on aol.

P.s. My laptop specs are... 2.0 p4, 32mb Radeon M6 mobility, 512 ram and 30gig hd. running win xp.

splinter cell... although when I first got my laptop it was working fine. I think I had 8.0 then too?
