Sony Giga Pocket - Hardware overlay conflict

When trying to run Sony Giga Pocket TV on a new PC, I receive a message that some other application is using HARDWARE OVERLAY. It instructs me to exit the other application and re-try. I have no other application running. How can I find out what other application is using HARDWARE OVERLAY? OS is Windows XP Home version.

Giga Pocket Hardware Overlay Problem

I too have had the same problem with my giga pocket. The only way that I have found to fix the problem was to do a system recovery, this takes about 1 hour or so. After I did all that I reinstalled all the programs that i use regularly to troubleshoot myself. After I had the application running, I also ran the giga pocket to make sure that the app running wasn't causing the problem. I didn't have any problems until i uninstalled one of my programs and ran an automatic registry cleaner. The registry cleaner is what caused the hardware overlay problem. It must delete what it thinks is a useless key in your registry but is acually needed. Do you use an automatic registry cleaner? If not I recommend 1 doing a system recovery, 2 install an app, 3 run the app and use all of its features, 4 check the giga pocket to make sure you don't get the error message, 5 if the giga pocket is still working create a restore point. Keep doing this until you find the app that causes the problem so you can be sure to stay clear from it. When you get the error message, you can simply restore your pc to the last restore point you've just created, so you don't have to do the system recovery again. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. That is exactly what happened to me. The registry cleaner obviously deleted something that triggered the problem. I recovered and re-installed all 50 or so applications, each time checking to see that GigaPocket still worked. Perhaps we can help someone else before they find out the hard way. Thanks again.

Yeah man no prob

Glad to hear you got your problem taken care of. The giga pocket was one of the features I liked and that's why I bought this vaio, and for it not to work correctly really had me down. I just posted the same reply on ezboards. I hope it helps others as well. Hope you have a good one man. Take care :-)

Application OVERLAY solution!!?!!

I am new to this site, but I had to register and let others know that I also have had for months a myriad of issues relating to the Giga Pocket Hardware Application Overlay nightmare. FINALLY, after numerous hours of restoring from the System Disks and endless searchings on the web, I have found that if you reinstall your drivers for the Sony Mpeg2 Encoder Board in System Properties it removed that issue. At least it did for me! I probably could have found the answer IF I could read Japanese

My system is Sony Vaio p4 1.7 GHz 80GB HD WinME

I hope this can help/work for others experiencing this nightmare - God knows I needed it months ago.
