digital camera

I am trying to use my digital camera Kodak dc 215 and I am unable to download pictures. I have gone thru all the steps and the one I cannot find is the com ports to see if the are enabled.. I went into the bios but I don't see anything about com port. Can some one help. I have and WinXP and a Win98. At one time before I had the xp I did have it operating on the 98

Steve, thank you for your very kind reply. Yes, I hooked everything up before turning on the computer. I've tried a lot of things on both machines but to no avail. The only thing I can think of is that the ports are disabled and I don't know how to enable them or how to check them.

I assume you have the software required for the camera to work on XP?

If not, get it here:

What motherboard do you have? Maybe someone has the same and they can see if their bios has anything about the com ports.

Need to look in device manager to make sure you don't have any conflicts.

Start->Settings->Control Panel->System->Harware tab->Device Manager

ALL items should have a plus sign in front of them. If you see anything else beside a plus sign, let us know. Also click on the Ports (com & LPT) and let us know what you see.

Thanks Steve and jmebonner. I think this has something to do with these ports. I hope you will be patient with me because I cannot answer as fast as I would like to because my wife has been very ill for some time and I am in charge of everything to run the houshold. So once in a while it takes longer to answer not because I am not interested but I just don't have the time.. So please stick with me. I did as you said ,Steve the Com port and printer port were both negative. When I click on the positive and then return later they are again negative. I don't know how to hold them to the positive side. Maybe you can help.
Again, thanks to both of you.

I'm sorry to hear about your wife I know that's hard on everyone.

The plus or minus just shows the level of the device manager, like the plus means there's more info, the minus means it's showing everything. Are there any yellow question marks out to the side is what steve probably meant.

As far as the motherboard type, what kind of computer is it? i.e. gateway, dell, hp, no idea?
If you do know what kind it is, post model number whatever else you know about it.
There is a utility that can be used to determine the motherboard type, but we're kinda getting ahead of ourselves, let's wait on that.
