winXP is CRAWLING... ugh.. suggestions?
OK, i went and installed xp on an older machine PII-266mhz w/ only 64MB ram...
now I konw taht I'm at a disadvantage right off the bat, but when I had win2k pro on this exact same machine, it ran just fine...
now it is as slow as you can imagine...
is there that much of a difference b/t xp and 2kpro?
ideas?
suggestions?
thanks

1. 64mb just won't cut it.
2. Disabling unnecessary services will help (check
this site
) ... but 64mb of RAM still won't do well.

I'd suggest you either buy serious RAM or revert to 2K.

RAM is not the only problem here.
It's a P2 266 ffs, even my bro's P2 450 w/512 MB SDRAM lags, it's the CPU.

Sounds like the same as putting a 300kg passenger on the backseat of your bike and wonder why your 3y old can't drive it
It will probably never run fine on it, it wasn't meant to.
