PSU brands

I'm gonna try and see if I can hit 433mhz FSB in my new setup, my im kind of crunched for money right now. The difference between the Geil 3200 ram and the 3500 ram is $26. I cut $26 off of my power supply.

If I do this, I have to pick a different psu. There are some REALLY cheap ones, but the brands I have never heard of.

PowerTek
A1
Codegen
Fortron/Source
Allied
ThermalTake

Any good ones?

ThermalTake is quite a well known company actually, the rest, are probably cheap PSU's...

What I find is, with a PSU is you get what you paid for, you pay for a cheap PSU, you get cheap components inside the PSU.

Good brandmakes are:

Hiper
Enermax
Sparkle (Cheap, but very good).

Out of the ones you listed, take a closer look at the ThermalTake, but try and get some reviews on it before you buy it.

thermal take and allied are both very good . don't think you can go wrong with either . i have used them both and have been very happy with them .

but the best inexpencive power supply that i have found is this achieve 500W power supply . it is the only supply i use now , for my own rigs ( i am a cheapo when it come to my own stuff) and for people that want a budget ps . it is GREAT . well worth the try out for 23$ shipped!!!!! www.frozencpu.com sells the same one for 40$ !!!

Codegen has been around for a while. I use one in my main system. It's been rock stable.

Best of luck.

~Edit

P.S. Sparkle is another name that's been around for quite some time, and is (or has been in recent history) very reputable. But from what I've seen, they're not so cheap in the US. I built my first comp about 5 years ago using one, and regardless of what I upgraded to, it was always overclocked. That PSU is still running in a system I sold to a friend a year ago. That thing is still going while most of the stuff it used to power is now obsolete.

The Thermaltake supplies get very good reviews, and they are quiet to boot. I just ordered one from newegg to help reduce my system noise. I can't stand loud fans.

Toms Hardware had a big review on power supplies not too long ago.

There is a HUGE difference in price between the Allied and the ThermalTake

I'm running the Enermax 300w that came with my case, no problems yet. I've heard mixed reviews on Allied power supplies, but one thing stands they are VERY quiet. I put one in my mom's PC, and the thing is silent.
