Hyper-Threading on P4

Quick question. I assume I won't be able to take advantage of H-T until I upgrade to XP. I doubt my current OS, Windows 98SE will support this. Am I right?

Thank you,

Robert

the OS options are Windows XP Home and Professional. some Linux distros may support HT, but it's unclear which.

What does Hyper-Threading do is what I am asking not what it means.

If I remember right, HyperThreading tells SOME programs (seems to be mostly editing types, and about 2% of even THOSE) that your 1 processor is 2 processors, and then the programs splits the work load somehow and it makes things go faster somehow. You still only have 1 CPU though. The program think you have 2 at half the speed kind of.

If I sound skeptical of HT, I kind of am because I never understand it's real-world potential.

Thanks Slinky. I'll be getting XP home edition in about 2 weeks. I just bought some new hardware from Newegg.
