Question about digital cameras.

I was thinking about buying a digital camera. But I have a question. Say I if take a picture and want to want to use it as wallpaper and my desktop is 1600x1200 can I do it? I know that the Mega Pixel of the camera matters in how good the picture will look at higher resolutions. My friend has as digital camera and he took at picture and put it as his wallpaper his resolution was 1024x768 and the picture looked grainy and poor quality but at lower resolutions it looked fine. I was thinking about getting a 3.2MP camera would this work for making wallpaper at 1600x1200?

My 2.0 takes pics at 1600x1200 and it looks great on the desktop but I can only go 1280 x 1024. Since it takes them at 1600x1200 I imagine it would look fine. It's a canon a60, the a70 is 3.2 megapixels, but about $80 or 90 more. Great camera though!
