Is pc2100 THAT much better?

Yo,

I'm building a computer for a guy at work. I told him I'd put ddr in it (k7s5a), but I have a stick of 512 pc133 here. Is the difference that noticable? I've never compared them side by side. He's not a power user and doesn't know ram from a processor Of course I'll tell him if I use the pc133, I;m not trying to rip him off, I just want to give him the best deal.

Thanks,
jme

You can't even stick PC133 in a mobo that supports DDR. And yes, it does make a difference.

Yes you can. Do a little research before telling me that, plz. Note the board is a K7S5A.

yes you can with a k7s5a. because your not overclocking and he's not a power user i dont think you will see much difference. i just built a computer to use some parts using the k7s5a with 512 pc133 and use it to crunch ecc. it crunches fairly close to the pc2100 ram computer.

Wrong Artic

I have a shuttle ak32 and it supports ddr 2100 and pc100/pc133. I just took out pc133 and put in pc2700.

Sorry about the confusion. I guess I didn't look at the specs carefully enough.

No prob! I know they usually won't take both, but that's what I like about this board, you can still utilize your old stuff until you can upgrade to the pc2100

I played with an old K7S5A with a Duron at school...it ran MUCH better with DDR over SDR

With that mobo your dealing with memory translators, which don't always go right and they won't be as good as just a pure DDR mobo.
