Should it take Compaq two months to build my laptop?

How long should it take I called and the rep told me that it would be another 8-10 days I ordered it around July 27 now its Aug 21.
When I said that seemed like a long time to rep told me thats how long it takes but thats what they say every time I call. The last thing he said was "good luck" whats that mean?

god they could make it from scratch with a slab of silicon and a soldering iorn in that time

Maybe they can save a ton of money by waiting a few more weeks! By then the components will be cheaper and obsolete....

I know how you feel though - I ordered a Dell Inspiron 8500 and the rep has been jerking me around... it will be over a month since I first ordered the laptop before they expect to ship it.
When I asked him why the delay, he said the database wasn't working at the moment and I'd have to call later to find out... then he stopped answering the phone ( he has caller ID) and wouldn't reply to email.

I'd be most appreciative if you could call and ask why the WUXGA Inspiron 8500s are delayed, and when they will be shipping them again. Please post the reply here.

Complain, complain, complain. I'd be balistic with them. There's no excuse for waiting 2 months for a laptop that's available on their website, UNLESS they tell you in advance there are shortages of certain parts for it.

Well, the Dell Dude (or the website at least) says I'll get the laptop between the 2nd and the 4th of September. We'll see!

I hope you get your laptop soon, or you cancel and buy one off the shelf (instant gratification!)

2 months? Last I checked August came after July...so it's less than 1 month since you ordered it ... 8 - 10 days isn't a month ... it's barely over a week. So you're looking at a little over a month to get the order, build it, and SHIP it. You're not always priority #1 you know

They may be ordering a part or set of parts that will be in your system and haven't recieved them yet...they might even be waiting to fix a known problem with a component (HP/Compaq are the same thing ... HP is having problem with Fujitsu hard drives in newer models)
