Computer automaticaly reboots in gaming
Hello, I am seeking help on a problem that i am having with my computer. It seems that while i am playing video games, either diablo II or MOHAA my computer tends to randomly reboot. There is no set interval between times it reboots, but it reboots at least once in a period of gaming. At first i thought i might by the blaster.worm virus so i download the correct patch for me windows XP home OS, and also ran a cleaning tool provided by certain vendors. After running the tool and DLing the patch, i found that the blaster.worm was not infection my system. So now i'm posed with the question, "what is causing my system to just automatically reboot. I was thinking that some how the games are conflicting with another program on my system, but i am not sure how i can go about finding this problem. if there is anyone that may help me i would be truely greatfull

Can you post your system specs? What OS are you running? Any updates or Service Packs installed? What I suggest is competely uninstalling your vid card drivers (go Add-Remove programs and uninstall them from their), and then reinstall. If that doesn't do the trick, then try updating your version of DirectX to 9 if you haven't done so already.
One more thing: Are you overclocking at all? Your description sounds exactly like an overheating problem. Make absolutlely sure you have adequate case airflow, and that your CPU's heatsink/fan is rated for the speed of your processor.
Hope this helps!

Have you got Service pack 1 installed?
A few games come with updates for XP to make it work with them, not sure if this applies to MOHAA though.
I second what AF said, it does sound like an overheating problem, what temperatures are you running at? (idle+full load plz) Are you overclocking? What Video card drivers are you using?
BTW ArcticFox, I think XP already has DX9 built into it.
Also, go into system properties->advanced-> startup and recovery settings, and uncheck the "Automatically Reboot box" and see if it will give you a BSOD next time, if so, it could be down to a driver, depending on the BSOD.
Finally: WELCOME TO TECHIMO

well, lets see, my system is running a AMD athlon 2700 on a KT4V MB, 512 pc 3200 memory, not overclocking processor or ram, video card is a GF4 Ti 4200 card, I have service pack 1 installed, i'm still using direct X 8. Furthermore i think it was a heat problem acually. I don't know how, i have three freaking fans running in there. Anyhow my case has a thermosta attached to it and I stuck in the cpu heat sink, was running at over 40 c, so then i took off the side panel thus giving more air flow, droped the cpu heat sink temp to around 36 - 37 and havn't had it crash on me since, now i just need to figure out how to get more air flow in there with the case side panel on, i'll figure somthing out, thx for the sugestions. I'm gona keep running the system as cool as i can and try to get the problems to re-ocure, if it dosn't then i supose over heating was the prob, thanks again

That's a pretty low temp for a CPU. I have not idea what I run at, but 36c means you've got the cooling down. My nForce2 reports around 45-48 but it's really flaky and I don't trust it, and that's overclocked.

are you playing these games ONLINE?
If you are, what kind of connection are you using? i.e. Dial up, DSL, Cable...
I've just had two computers do the same thing you're talking about after installing DSL internet while gaming online... The only way I could fix it was to reformat. |

Do you have Netscape 7.1? That causes re boots with Win 2K, may be doing the same with you...

How about video drivers? Latest?
Actually from your posts it could be virtually anything from corrupt applications to conflicting video drivers to a bad sector on your drive.
You'll have to eliminate each possible cause one by one.
