Boot Problems

I have an epox 8rda+, athlon 2600, and a maxtor 120 gig hd, win xp. I was trying to get my friends hd to boot in my computer and didnt get that to work so i put my hd back in which prior to my friends was working perfectly. when i put my hd back in it gives me the normal startup beep but then when the welcome screen comes up i get a couple beeps from my speakers that were never there before, also when i click on a profle to enter the password to get in windows it will start puting in characters in the password line and wont stop until you hit backspace. anyone know what this problem is or how to fix it?
THX

Are there any other hard drives in the system?

Is your friends drive empty or is it possible virus infected?

Have you trippled checked the cable connections.

Ditto on checking the cables.
Are you going into the BIOS to make sure that your drive is being detected correctly?

About your friends drive... is it jumpered correctly for the IDE location you are putting it in and again... are you going into the BIOS to make sure it is detected? If there is an OS on your friends drive what OS is it? Just an FYI if it is XP you cannot move the drive to a new machine without reinstalling XP... this is a WPA thing.
