What to do when your host gets blacklisted...
I recently got a dedicated server for some projects I have been working on, (I will wait on mentioning the name of who I got it from pending the outcome of my request to them). Did my research on the company, found few complaints but nothing that made me uncomfortable. Overall I was happy with the inital transaction and the server.
Until.....I try to move a site to it. I had been using Zoneedit for DNS, so I change the IP and it wont accept it because it has been blacklisted....Bit more research and it appears that Spews has a habit of blacklisting large blocks of IPs if a spammer was EVER on that network. To add to this, the way to get them removed is to post to a newsgroup stating that the problem has been resolved and supposedly they will remove it.
I have submitted a ticket with the hosting company explaining the situation and asking for a resolution. I did this very calmly and professionally, being certain not to loose my temper or otherwise step out of line. The jist of the statement was that if this cannot be resolved I will cancel my account with them and seek a refund for the first month due to their not being able to provide a properly working server. My plans were for this to eventually become something I could sell space on but I cannot do that if users get bounced mail because my IP is blacklisted.
Once I get a response from them and know where this is going I will post results..
Anyone else had this problem? Was my reaction out of line? Anything that anyone can add to this?
