Kids Why do my jpg files get corrupted over time

I save .jpg files and over time they gradually black out or become blurry, and some even become a red "X" eventually.

Do I have a virus, or is there some kind of timing set on the .jpg file so that it self-destructs in time?

I have heard moving .jpg and video files between FAT and NTFS can cause this problem, but some of these files I have never moved and they still self-destruct (get worse with each viewing).

Also, what is that with the FAT and NTFS? Why does video or jpg care about the format? Do you have to be careful about moving such files (even if zipped)?
