Kids What is best shareware equivalent of PaintShop Pro?

I am looking for an opensource/shareware alternative to Adobe PhotoShop and Paint Shop Pro. What sort of opensource and shareware graphics packages does everyone use and recommend?

Thanks!

Crouse is right: once you load up The GIMP, you'll swear someone decompiled Photoshop and redid the program. As I don't use my laptop for image editing (it has Mandrake 9.1) because of it's 1024x768 LCD, I've loaded it up for a little while and was impressed at how powerful it was.

I suggest downloading the Windows version to see for yourself.
