Are you playing a game when this happens?

Does your motherboard overheat from time to time (it beeps to indicate it is overheating)

Is your system overclocked?

no firewall. It never happened on win98. And no it never done it while i was playing a game. I was just on the desktop and on techimo. I played a game (cc generals) for like 4 hours straight and it never did nuthin. O well i just put win98 back on xp was pissin me off. It shut down like that and when i go online it would go soooo slow because it was downloading/uploading for no reason. I tried to reformat and see wat happens well it still did it so i just put win98 back on.

I'm not saying you have a virus as the source of your problem, but be aware that many virii can survive a simple reformat. The only way to be absolutely sure your HD is virus-free is to FDISK and drop all partitions, zero-write the drive, then re-partition and re-format.

Edited to add emphasis (bold text)
