is your computer set to "shut down when a certain temp is reached" as a safety precaution in your system bios? maybe your cpu is reaching a pre-determined temperature (turn this function off) and shutting down the computer, during this intensive task.
how about the "sleep" function on your computer? do you have a hot key on your keyboard which you are hitting during the game that makes your computer shut down?
make sure all other programs are shut down before you log onto CS and try rebooting before you play to clean out the sys memory.
speaking of memory, do you have enough ram?
you may also want to check your screensaver/power saving settings in the screensaver, advanced tabs in control panel. your hdd might be going into hibernation during the game, which I find unlikely due to mouse movement, but it's possible.
worst case scenario, I would re-install CS (and all those maps you've downloaded, uggh) and try again.
another cause might be you're on a slow connection (high latency/ping) and the servers are kicking you out.
hope this helped, and that the problem is solved soon!
maybe I'll see you online sometime...my handle is "brAZen" and I play from NH.

one of my comptuers gets really hot and sometimes my top of the line Volcano CPU Heatsink/fan can't keep up with my non a/c room. and it doesn't shut down when the CPU gets over 70°C and it almost messed up my comp bad. would you mind showing me how to set my bios so it shuts down after my preferred temperature? thanks

And sorry SOADFan37X other than what StealthyV mentioned, I don't know how to help you.

SEVENTY DEGREES CELCIUS?????? ARE YOU NUTS?

Oh my, your computer shouldn't even be freaking running at that temperature. May I suggest taking off the HSF, and reapplying a thin layer of ArcticSilver III to your proc?

Uh... wha? Sorry all that just went right over my head. What's HSF and ArcticSilver III to my proc?

and oh yeah it was running, like a fire in a cage. i was playing a game for a while and then my comp froze, so then i left the room for a drink while it restarted so i didnt see the temp on the screen yet. then i come back and its making all these noises when i move the mouse, and then i felt the top back of the comp where the power supply is located, it was HOT! so i restarted again and saw the temp and almost blew me away so i right away turn the switch off, next day i went and bought a new fan because i took it apart and the fan just had it, wore it out and wouldn't spin anymore barely.

but yeah anyway, could you please tell me what you just said for the average joe

Thanks,
FireWolf

"What's HSF and ArcticSilver III to my proc?..."

HSF = Heat Sink/Fan combination. The heat sink is the block of metal, usually finned, and the Fan blows on the Heat Sink.

Arctic Silver III = paste (goop) applied to surface of the CPU so that it has good contact with the HSF, for better heat removal from the hot CPU to the HSF.

"...then i felt the top back of the comp where the power supply is located, it was HOT! so i restarted again and saw the temp and almost blew me away so i right away turn the switch off, next day i went and bought a new fan because i took it apart and the fan just had it, wore it out and wouldn't spin anymore barely."

It would be helpful if you specify which fan you removed. If it's the heat sink's fan you've replaced, you need to make sure that you've properly seated the heat sink onto your CPU. If it was the power supply fan (some power supply fans are more easily removed than others) you've replaced, I think you'll probably help out a failing power supply (but it might not have that long to live after your heat-ups).

"...would you mind showing me how to set my bios so it shuts down after my preferred temperature?"

This really depends on the make/model of your motherboard. If you have the manual for your motherboard, it should direct you to hit "Delete" or some other button during the Power-On Self-Test (POST), which will lead you to the BIOS screens. Then it's a matter of paging through and finding the option to change.

From what you've said, I'm thinking that maybe your HSF has failed, which is why the computer shut down in the first place. If this is the case, then your best bet would be to ensure you have the HSF seated properly (as mentioned above), fire up your machine, find the BIOS temperature cut-off, set it lower (say 60F), and see if it happens again while playing.

Hope this helps.

Also get more case fans to blow some of that hot air out. Have one blowing air in the front and one moving the air out in the back at least if you allready don't have that. I have six running on my setup plus a big heatsink and fan with silver thermal paste. Keeps it cool even when playing games. Heat can be a major problem causing poor performance and could damage expensive parts. Much cheaper to buy some fans than to have to buy a new CPU maybe even a motherboard.
I would suggest having a pro do the work for you when messing around with the HSF and adding the Artic silver to the proc if you dont know how to do that or know what those were.

ArticFox: hahahahahah no i don't build nothing sept lego castles lol

rusty 4x4: the power supply fan had it so that was replaced, so was the hsf so that got replaced too. but we first noticed the power supply fan not spinning (rmp) was low.

and everything's fine now but since i got my new computer im not on the old one very much, my parents use it and they don't know that much so i'd like to make sure it gets shut off after a certain temperature. i just woke up so imma work on that today. ill let u know on my futile attempts lol.

dlh75: i noticed that everyone here has like 400 fans going on/in their comp, how do u add fans? do u cut holes and attach them places or what's going on. new case? or u just have a bunch of fans running in the hole places lol? and your right about the expensive parts part dont want them getting messed up.

Thank you to everyone for your replies and it helped a lot!
