Whats wrong here

Ok i can go online and my internet connection says theres nothin uploading/downloading when i dont do anything or when i dont have a page goin. This is whats suposed to happen well after awhile it starts goin slow so i closed all the windows and my connection is still uploading and downloading info. This is not suposed to happen. Its like its sending and receiving and i dont even know what but it slows down my internet alot. Does anyone know whats wrong. I just put on winxp and it never did this with win98.

Also did you do a clean install of XP or install over top of 98?
What do your logs say?

i did a clean install.

amd athlon xp 2000+
128mb geforce fx ultra
256mb ddr 2700 corsair xms on a pc 2100 mobo
netodragon modem.

ah see well nasty programs can send and revice data over the web without your consent run some anti virus software, some anti spyware stuff and hope your not running an xdcc bot or something. logs would be any logs you have of traffic in and out of your pc over that modem
