Xp Pro/98se dual boot...can swap files between?
I want to install XP Pro AND 98se onto my newly bought hard drive. which one do i need to install first?? and i'm only installing 98se in order to use my KensingtonCam, so i will need to be able to use those webcam pics i took with 98se, on XP. so does that mean i need to use Fat32 for the Xp Pro partition or does it matter? also, if i install 98se on the C: drive adn XP on D:, do i have to install 98 before xp?? this is SUCH a pain in the butt! stupid kensington! grr!
Any help, suggestions, advice would be MUCH appreciated from this techy newbie hehehe |

YES. Install 98 first. If you want to be able to copy FROM 98 (while booted to 98) to XP, XP will have to be Fat32.

Ooooorrr... You can create 3 partitions. One for Win98 (FAT32), one for XP (NTFS) and a 3rd one to use for transferring files (FAT32). You can either make a large 3rd partition and put all your data on it or a small one to do transfers.

hmmm ok...so i'd rather keep XP as NTFS so i'm glad i can do that...so if i'm booted to XP(NTFS) and want to use pics from the 98 partition, i can do that? no problem? about the 3 partitions...i was thinking of doing that, too, set the 3rd one as FAT32 so i can use my Ghost2002 and stores images there of XP even if it would convert it to FAT32 if i had to restore.
do i sound like i know what i'm talking about?? lol
oh, maybe this is a dumb question...but if i install 98se FIRST...do i need to install all my drivers after it? or wait til after i intall XP since that's the one i'm gonna be using for everything....???? prolly makes no difference? oh WAIT, i'll have to do friggin fdisk if i install 98 first instead of using the xp cd to do it ...grr! why does everything have to be so danged complicated!? *sigh...
thanks for y'alls help! |

oh, maybe this is a dumb question...but if i install 98se FIRST...do i need to install all my drivers after it? Install all of W98se (including drivers for the all hardware you will use within 98se) on C as if it were the only OS you are going to use. You could even install XP the following week, if you chose to. or wait til after i intall XP since that's the one i'm gonna be using for everything....???? prolly makes no difference? makes no difference, but I've always installed 98se first, in total, then XP oh WAIT, i'll have to do friggin fdisk if i install 98 first instead of using the xp cd to do it ...grr! why does everything have to be so danged complicated!? *sigh...
thanks for y'alls help! | FDISK is really not complicated, just take your time, drop the exisitng partitions, repartition into two (or three partitions), set the first one as active, and away you go. Here's a good FDISK reference link: http://support.microsoft.com/default...;EN-US;Q255867
