Kids What's happening to my icons???

I'm running XP pro, I have run Norton AV, search and destroy and hijackthis. But my Jpg icons on my desktop keep changing to weird icons.

I downloaded these pics off my camera a while ago, and they have been sitting there so I or my wife can email them to friends and family, but now one of they has the mpeg layer 3 icon, another has the ATI multimedia icon and still one more has the printer icon. My machine starts fine, but all of a sudden they change, and at random time periods.

That is really weird. One thing you can do is...

Get into Folder Options (My Computer>Tools>Folder Options) and then click the File Types tab and then scroll down to Jpeg or whatever type of file you downloaded from your camera, select it, then click advanced and then you will be given the option to change the icon, if it doesn't look like the picture below, try and change it. It may not neccessarily have to look like the picture below, but if it's totally something different, such as your printer. You might want to mess around with it.

Thanks firewolf,

I actually have it set up to show a thumbnail of the pic, but every now and then it changes to strange icons, and then sometimes goes back to normal after a while.

Send a message via AIM to [A3D]Hatswitch
Download and install TweakUI, then run "Repair - Rebuild Icons."

If you already have TweakUI installed.. get rid of it
Sometimes I've found that it really borks your icons when its installed and you've repaired them.

A non tweak ui way to do it, my preferred method

TweakUI has been known to corrupt the ShellIconCache.
