Video Card RMA Story

Its been almost 3 weeks since I sent in my PNY GF4 Ti4200 for RMA replacement. Today I called to check on the status & was told that the Ti4200 cards are back ordered and they don't know when they'll be getting more of them.

But the service rep. offered to do me a "favor" and replace my Ti4200 with an FX 5200 so I wouldn't have to wait any longer. He seemed suprised when I turned down his offer. After all "the FX is nVidia's latest and most advanced graphics processor, it supports DX9, etc., etc.".

How dumb do they think people are?? I told him I'd be willing to take a 5600 - but he wouldn't go for that. I guess I'll just have to wait a little longer for them to honor their "lifetime warantee".

I've heard of companies offering upgrades for older video cards before, and I guess the 5200 is supposed to be the replacement for the 4200, but I certainly wouldn't have taken it.

I hope they get some 4200s in stock soon for you!

The FX 5200 is basically an updated GF4 MX440.

I sent in a defective Ti4400 to Newegg. The tech at Newegg offered to replace my Leadtek Ti4400 with a Ti4200. He was surprised when I did not accept the offer!

Hmmm.

Well, at least you were smart to ask for the same card. My PNY 4600Ti died, and I sent it back, the tech just said, "Okay, we'll replace it no problem..." So, I sent in the card, at the beginning of this week, I got an FX 5600 w/256MB instead.

It, at best, seems to be a wash. Maybe good, maybe bad. I have not even installed it yet. I am trying to decide.

But you must remember, that the Lifetime Guarantee is a good deal. It just works out better the longer you have your card. I mean, if you have a PNT Verto TNT2 w/32MB, would you really be upset if they gave you an MX440, because they have no TNT2s at all...?!

Though, three weeks is a long time, from the time I mailed my card in to receipt of the new one, it was a week and a half. Perhaps they really are waiting for a 4200!

Is the lifetime deal only for the PNY or what? I've not heard of this guarantee.

wonderful point mike... guess that means my PNY GF2TI is actually gonna be worth something in 30 years

my video card RMA story:

3/28/03
purchase 1 radeon 9500PRO from one buyaib.com for $190 retail package[of whom i had done much businees successfully]

4/6/03
recieve 1 busted radeon 9500 non pro from buyaib.com

4/8/03
RMA to company

4/22/03
receive 1 half working radeon 9500 non pro from company, all but 1 or 2 pixel pipelines are faulty, resulting in some psychedelic screens.

7/25/03
RMA back to company [hoping to flush their stock of 9500's to get something better]

8/5/03
email company concerning shipment on package, email confirmation still states that it has not shipped

8/6/03
recieve email stating that it was shipped on that day 8/6/03

8/18/03
call company on whereabouts of my money/card and told to call back when convenient for him...
..call back later and told that my package shipped out GUARANTEED on 8/15/03...

well today is the last possible day for that package to show up, considering it only takes the USPS about 4 days to get a package here, and no more than 6, and today is the 6th day... so we shall see whose phone lines are lit up with me on the other end smiling largely

don't buy from Buyaib they like to keep your money

Hi DPA,
If it doesn't show up, demand get a tracking number. It's easy to say it shipped, but a tracking number tells the true tale.
