Some simple DSL questions

My dsl is rated ofr 512/256. What does that turn into for kb/s down/up. And if I am uploading that does affect my downloading right?

Alot of times im constantly uploading things, and never had a degrade in preformance with cable. it shouldnt affect you espically on DSL but there is certain cases i have seen where it does affect you.

I have a 512/512 adsl line. I can upload at ~95% without it affecting my download, but if the upload goes to 100%, the download will slow down dramatically.

Just divide both values by 8, since 1 byte = 8 bits, so you get 64 KB/s download and 32 KB/s upload.

So in theroy I could upload at like 25 and download at lets say 50 with out having the uploads kill the download speed?
