pagefile.sys

Can I delete this file pagefile.sys which is a hidden file in the root directory ( C: ). Is there any way I can lower the size? The file is 768 MB!

Assuming you are running NT4, or W2K or WinXP, pagefile.sys is your Windows swap file (and a system file, to boot!). Why ever would you want to delete it?

You can adjust the size of pagefile.sys from Start... Settings... Control Panel... System... Advanced (tab)... Performance (button), then Advanced (tab) and change your virtual memory size settings.

Yes I am on WinXP as I said on my post... What should the file size normally be?

It should be the size that it is...1.5x the size of physical RAM.

So mine's okay? What if I lower it even more, would that affect the computer performance speed?

One of my computers has a page file of 1535 MB, and another computer has 1150mb. If you aren't video editing or encoding, you may not need that much. You could also change it so its smaller, but if you do run out of memory, windows will automatically adjust it so its larger. I don't think its a big deal at all, especially if you keep it on another drive, where the OS isn't located. Seems faster.
