Windows XP won't load. Mobo/CPU problem?

I was building a new system consisting of an ECS L4VXA2 motherboard, 2.66 GHz Pentium 4 533 MHz FSB, Western Digital 30 GB hard drive, and Prolink Pixelview GeForce FX 5200 128 MB video card. I had problems installing Windows XP Pro but I eventually got it to install. Now my problem is, Windows would not load. The loading screen would not show up at all when I try to run it as normal. When I try Safe Mode, it would start loading drivers but would stop at Mup.sys.

I have another system that works with an Abit IS7 motherboard, 2.4 GHz Pentium 4 800 MHz FSB, Prolink Pixelview GeForce FX 5600, and Western Digital 80 GB hard drive. I put the 30 GB hard drive (the one in the new system I was building) into my Abit board and it would load Windows. At first, I would get a lot of errors, but they stopped after I ran chkdsk on it. I then put my 80 GB hard drive with Windows XP into the ECS motherboard, but I would get the same problem. Windows loading screen does not show up and drivers stop loading when I run Safe Mode.

Also, I have two sticks of memory: a Corsair 512 MB PC2100 and a generic 512 MB PC2700. I tried both sticks on both motherboards. The Abit worked with both sticks but the ECS did not with work with any of the sticks.

So, could this be a motherboard/CPU problem? Other threads suggested that it might be a memory problem because Windows XP is picky about memory, but both modules worked with my Abit but not with my ECS. If it is a motherboard/CPU problem, what could the problem be?

just my $.2, but try installing win2k or win98SE and see what happens...winXP can be annoying when it comes to installs. I stick with win2k myself because it's tried and true.
try another os.
I have a motherboard that works only with Unix...no windows, after its IDE circuits fried for some reason...
IMO, try another os...it might be a software problem, not the hardware.

FYI, if ya fellas ain't done it yet, there is a L4VXA2 BIOS update for 1.5V CPUs to make the board more stable.

In my case, the final 100% stable step was to move the one PC3500(or 3200, forget now) Infineon module to the slot next to the CPU.

Also, if you are running Win98, you'll need to get the NDIS update, or windows will lock up with CPUs that run 2.1Ghz or higher, before being able to boot into windows.

Get it here:
http://www.sjordan.com/ndis_fix.html
The file can be downloaded from the link on the bottom:
http://www.sjordan.com/ndis_fix.zip (and you can install it in safe mode)

For XP fellas, remember pull all the crap out of the system, yank out all the USB junk, and go as bare as you can, one memory stick only. Lots of peeps are having a heck of a time with XP installing on this board with all the junk on it at the same time, wierd, but who knows...
