Kids Tape Drive Issue...

This may be the wrong forum, but here goes:

I know nothing about SCSI!!

My friend has an IBM server, a SCSI card, and an external Tape Drive in an enclosure.

He has the SCSI card, enclosure and Drive all set to ID6. Should they all be different, or what, because it is not picking up the tape drive...

any pointers guys?

The drive and controller need to be on separate IDs. Normally the controller is defaulted to 7 and the drive should be somewhere between 1 and 6. The indicator on the external enclosure is simply an indicator for troubleshooting with multiple drives. Does the enclosure have an external terminator attached? If not, then you'll need one for terminating the chain.

Yes absolutely. Each unit on the same SCSI bus must have its own unique ID. Note that the enclosure doesn't have its own, it's probably just an external means of setting the drive's ID.
