USB 2.0 enclosure problem

I've got a 120G HDD sitting in a USB 2.0 HDD enclosure. When I attach this to my laptop (Windows XP Home), it allows me to copy files to it fine, except if its a really big file then after about 30 seconds or so, you can tell its got some sort of problem because the progress bar no longer increases. Then a dialogue box appears saying that it cannot find file or path specified, and the HDD partitions of the external drive that you can see when you click on My Computer "disappear", so you can no longer access the drive at all.
The same thing happens if you copy lots of small files to the HDD, after about 30 seconds, the same thing happens.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the drive/enclosure, because when I use it on my PC upstairs (Windows 98), then everything transfers fine (at a slower USB 1.1 speed, though), and there is no problem.

Anyone got any ideas about what the problem is, and what I can do. I had hoped things might rectify themselves upon installation of Service Pack 1 for XP, but to no avail...

what brandname drive is it?
what type of computer do you have?
do you have the latest firmware for your usb 2.0?
is the usb 2.0 an add-in card or on the motherboard?
latest drivers for winxp home for the device?
is the device xp compliant?

I have the same problem. I can not delete the file from the external hdd. Copying to it using usb1 is ok, but not with usb2.0.

How can I delete the file from the ext hdd. When I try, I get the error msg saying, ' cannot delete xxx.xx file: cannot find the specified path. Make sure you specify the correct path.'

It happens on win2000, win98, and winxp, winme.

I have OKgear external closure and western digital HDD 80GB.

Could you please help?
