Help me choose some speakers!
Hey all,
Ive recently started thinking about buying some speakers for my room, i was looking at the Logitech Z-560 5-PIECE THX Speaker System. I really only be using it for Music 80% of the time but Gaming + DVD's 20% of the time.
Is this the best option in that price and need range?
Also, what else should i purchase ie. sound card, cables etc. to get the most out of the system.
Are these speakers ideal for music, or are there other speakers i should be looking into for better music quality?
Thanks!!

I beleive Klipsch speakers would be better for music, not that iv heard them myself, but some people seem to find them clearer.

Ok, let's see...
If you're looking a 5-piece sound system and money is not an issue, get the Klipsch 5.1 system. It's got Dolby THX support and sound is really cool whether you're playing games or listening to music or watching your favorite VCD/DVDs. Otherwise Logitech's Z-560 is a reasonable system and is less expensive than Klipsch
As for getting the most of your system, well it depends on the system you have (chipset, mobo, videocard, CD/DVD, etc.) Here's a few suggestions which might help:
1. A USB port if you haven't one.
2. A CD writer for burning CDs.
3. A Sound Card; personal choice: Creative's Sound Blaser Audigy mp3 if you're serious into music.
4. A good set of headphones.
5. A 6 in 1 card reader. Perfect if you have an mp3 player - just connect it via USB port, insert your mp3 player memory stick and get your mp3s to hard disk.
6. Good software - Sound Forge or Cool Edit PRO if you're into music editing, Audiograbber for grabbing songs from CDs into your harddrive, and Nero or Roxio for burning CDs.
Hope I helped

Music, eh? You're going to, without a doubt, wait for the Klipsch PM5.1-Ultra coming out in september. It's going to kick @$$!! http://store.klipsch.com/details.asp?prodID=56
edit: spelled Klipsch wrong. Sorry.

Thanks for your replys.
That Klipsc system looks sexy, i bet it pumps at good quality - but its gonna cost a heap i expect! Any word as too how much it will cost when its released?
Is there any other system you know of around the same price as the Z-560 System that is more music based, rather than aimed at gamers etc.?
Thanks

You could get the klipsch 4.1, which also are really kick ***, not as good as the 5.1, but still an awsome set of speakers. I think at Circuit City, in most stores, they are going in clearence for around $150.
I am using the Promedia 2.1, which are awsome as well....basically, and klipsch set that you get are going to be good.....well....except for the new retro looking ones..(what are they called?) a lot of people are hearing a hiss in it.
Klipsch Promedia 4.1 $129.99 http://store.klipsch.com/details.asp?prodID=35

ok come on guys - lets not give the poster some incorrect assumptions about the klipsch 5.1s.
someone earlier mentioned that the klipsch 5.1 is dolby thx certified.... umm - what does dolby have to do with ths certification? dolby is a sound compression code - not a certification quality stamp.
first of all - as long as your sound card supports dolby digital/prologic encoding - then whichever speakers you have - will output dolby audio - it does not make sense to have "DOLBY SUPPORT CERTIFICATION".
so here is the deal - u want speakers that cost about the same as the logitech 680s... u could go three ways:
1. klipsch 4.1
2. cambridge megaworks 550/650
3. altec lansing 5.1 ada995 (thx certified)
link: http://www.overstock.com/cgi-bin/d2....&PROD_ID=52458
if i were u - i would go ahead and purchase the altecs - they are only 129.99 with 2.95 shipping at overstock.com and they are 5.1 - that means that whether u choose to watch a dvd or play video games or listen to music - u are well covered.

The logitech, imo, are more of movie speakers, they are more boomy and such, and sound no where near as crisp as the klipsch. If, as you say, you will be listening mostly to music, i beileve the klipsch will satisfy your needs much better. Get the klipsch, you wont be disapointed. Quote: |

| I dont what you are talking about, the z-680's cost about $290, compared to the Promedia 4.1 which costs $129

I have the PM4.1 and I am VERY pleased with it. When I went to Best Buy, I was very unimpressed with the Z-560. The bass was boomy, unbalanced, and very inaccurate. The satts, having full-range drivers, were a little muddy and very "blended".
Trust me on this one. I worshipped Logitech for a while until I joined the Klipsch forums and they showed me the light. Believe me, you WILL NOT be left dissappointed. The sub isn't boomy like the 560's and is pretty balanced, and only a bit boomy due to it utilizing a bass reflex enclosure. It's worth it, though, because it can hit pretty low for an MM sub. Also, don't be fooled by the "refurbished" thing. They're as good as new, and do not have cosmetic imperfections. I really don't need to go further with this one.

LOL, and BTW they're on sale! 20 bucks off!
