Jungmamr is on a distinguished road

Maybe I have been living underneath a rock for a while, but what does all this "onboard" talk mean?

Matt

component comes built into the motherboard, so you don't need a card for it...such as video (though it's never that great), audio, and network...plus all the old stuff like usb

So does it take up more physical space on the motherboard? Is it easy to disable? How much more extra does it cost?

Means the capability is built into the motherboard rather than being a seperate piece of hardware.

For example, "onboard LAN" means the NIC chipset is built into the motherboard and there is an RJ-45 JAck on the back of the motherboard.

Other typical "onboard" devices are Video cards (for cheaper models) and sound

----edit------- I guess I typed too slow =), oh well, little redundancy never killed ne1

for most things the "onboard" stuff is built into the southbridge, so it's incorporated into the chipset already.

You can enable/disable stuff in the BIOS.
