Toshiba 105CS won't boot, dead PS?

Today, I'm not going to be working on my machines. Instead, my Pastor at curch today said he had 2 machines he wanted me to restore for just low-level use (ie word processing, powerpoint, internet, etc). So I say no problem.

There's nothing wrong with the first machine sans a messed up windows install (I'm reformatting it, and he said it was okay to do that, so). The laptop, however.

It's a Toshiba 105CS/528 machine. And it won't even boot. I don't have much experience with laptops, so I came here for some help. I plug in only the power cord. The light comes on and says the AC is on. Then the battery light (orange) comes on, so I assume the battery is charging. Okay. I press and hold down the power button for a second, and the on switch comes on...then turns right back off. There's no beep, no spin-up, nothing on the display. The machine isn't under warranty. So what woul be the cause of this? I've read the troubleshooting an the manual, but there's no mention of this. Please help.

Sounds like it needs a good overnight charging, or a new battery.

Okay, I opened it up and found the problem. One of the internal batteries had exploded. I'm tring to get it out, but my screw stripped. Any advice on removing a small stripped screw?

Okay, the screw finally came out. We got the thing out. It's a small little thing that looks like a green pod of 3 peas. Both sides of it have the chemical coming out (NiMH). I guess we'll have to go out to radioshack or order a new one from Toshiba.

Meh. I couldn't get it fixed. Apparently some of the battery acid leaked onto the mainboard. The backup-battery was about to blow it seems as well. So I'm just going to bring it in and say it's dead. It's so old that it's probably cheaper to get a new one than to fix the old one anyway.

Working models of the 105CS are $ 30 - $ 60. on Ebay so limiting any more time invested is probably a smart move.
