Systems pc wont boot

when i connect my pc to the power, fan & mb power up and leds light up on the front then it seems to try to access the floppy drive then theres one beep and the screen stays black. this keeps happening in a loop and it never comes on. Ive tried putting a floppy in the drive and makes the one beep into a continues 4beeps then a gap. ive disconnected everything in succesion, including my memory and ive reset the cmos, all not having any effect.

This problem started off intermitently for no reason then it ended up that it happens all the time and my pc wont come on at all.

I have an ami bios on a gygabite ga-7ixe4 mb with amd duron 800mhz processor.
Please help somebody!!!!!!!!!!!!

try a minimal system, no fdd, only one strip of memory, remove and PROPERLY reseat your graphics card. i can't remember how many beeps means what but these p.o.s.t. message beeps should point you in the right direction. try a different strip of memory if you still get no results or a different graphics card. when you get it working just add your sound, modem etc one at a time testing in between each, and make sure your floppy and hard drive connectors are the right way round.

/edit: spelling

Do you still have the manual that came with the mobo? It should have the beep codes in the troubleshooting section. If not, do you have another video card? Or even try just reseating the video card and see what happens. Good Luck!

I've also had the problem where the memory stick was not seated correctly in the socket and the box was doing the same thing. I reseated the memory and it started fine. Maybe a bad stick of memory?

I have three sticks of memory and ive moved them all around and tried them one at a time in different slots and combinations but nothing makes any difference. Whats puzzling me is that my pc has been working fine for 12 months, then out of the blue this problem started occasionly, I would press the reset button on my case a couple of times and it would eventualy boot up but its got worse until now it wont come on at all.

I had this problem with one of my old PC's. The mb LEDs would flash etc... an then 1 beep and nothing on the screen. I reinserted the memory and changed VGA. Worked fine after that. What BIOS do you have? 1 beep for AMI BIOS and nothing appears on the monitor usually means that you need to check your video card.

Hope this helps,
Moep
