Systems Network problems

I need help setting up my network between two OS. I,m running XP on my host computer and W2k on the other. Can any one help me how set up the network with this two systems? please

do you have a switch or hub between the machines?

or who network cards in the xp machine?

nope it's a direct cross over cable. Infact i have done it before but then after formatting last week i couldn't. i guess i have forgotten how.

run the cable between them, setup the connections (should be done automatically) ... bridge the connections. Then set internet/file sharing accordingly.

i have already run the cable between the the 2 computers. i have also setup the connections on the two and all that u saying, but the second system is which running w2k can't log on. is not seeing the other system.

Have you installed Netbeui on the XP machine? I know that Microsoft is getting away from it, but the protocol itself usually always works.

You do not need Netbeui using XP and W2K. That isn't your problem.

I'm asking this because I obviously don't know much about XP.

Could XP's firewall, if active, be the problem?
