Processor / MB question

This could get confusing

I was given a computer this weekend.

Here's the board: www.bcmcom.com/tech/QS440bx/QS440BX.htm
It has a 466 celery
128 MB RAM
The rest doesn't matter

I am wanting to go as fast as possible w/ the processor, so here's the question.

It says on the bios page of the above link that you can go up to a PIII 1 GHz w/ the latest bios flash (which I did), but on the FAQ page it says it will revert to 100MHz FSB speeds.

I researched a bit and it looks like the multiplier on the PIII I Ghz is 7.5 and the FSB is 100, equaling 750 MHZ, correct? I believe the CPU determines the fsb and mult settings.
That being the case, I should stick with a celeron or PII that runs at 100 FSB, correct? OR is it still beneficial to go w/ the PIII

Arrrggghhh!!!

Slot 1(SECC-2) prices are always bad. There were many different configurations released using the SECC-2 specs. Most still running are server chassis and replacement/upgrades are ver expensive. The only SECC-2 1Ghz 100Mhz chip on pricewatch is running 359.00. I've got a couple of 500s and 600s laying around, but everything else in SECC-2 is running dual processor 133Mhz FSB. One other thing to consider is that the heat tolerances on the higher end chips are not as good as the lower end and SECC-2s can be a pain to keep cool.

What you saw was most likely a socket 370 PIII, much cheaper.

Wasn't there something different about the 1ghz PIII? I noticed it is already up to 107.50 - which is $77.50 more than I'd spend on a PIII.

I heard a couple years back that there was a big deal about this one processor. But I can't place my finger on it.

*EDIT* I have no idea how that link just got screwed up from when I quoted it to the time it was posted. LOL
