Kids Router Question

While looking over my router settings I noticed the the setting for the router's MTU was "Disabled" and at "0". Is this correct? I've never actually looked over the settings to the router except to upgrade the firmware. Other than that I never paid much attention to any of the settings. Excuse my ignorence on this subject..........

Router is a LinkSys BEFSR41 4 Port

Another question... if I change the number does it affect all pc's running off the router? Is it a permanent change to the router itself?

Thanks

I left it disabled but changed it to 1500. Not sure if that did anything or not. Tried to look for information regarding the MTU setting at the router itself but really never came up with much.
Thanks for the advice anyhow...

Well I enabled it and left it at 1500. No difference at all. At least from what I can tell.

Unless you're having problems opening web pages or downloading large emails, leave it alone. If you have a DSL connection that uses PPPoE, then you would set it to 1492.

MTU

For what it's worth, I have a Netgear MR814 wireless router. I had a problem accessing a couple of websites (my hotmail account and the Windows update site) with mine set at 1500. Based on the help instructions on the router setup screen, I changed it to 1492 (I have DSL service) and the problem went away. I'm a rank novice at this stuff but stumbled into the "solution" while talking with Netgear tech support.
