DVD recorders

I've been looking to get a DVD recorder and have found these two much cheaper than say a plextor/sony. Any input?

NEC

Lite on

Price is a big factor here, but I also am iinterested in compatability. I have a brand new Memorex progressive scan dvd player that has played everything I've thrown at it (including a cd that was encoded thru ulead video studio as a mini-dvd) I still can't believe that worked as it wasn't encoded as a vcd and the dvd player recognized it as a mini-dvd.

Thanks, Incog

maybe check each manufacturers site and see if they have a list of known compatible dvd players..but if youre prog scan player is new it will probably work with either drive...besides they are dual format drives so compatability shouldnt be a factor.

Personally I'm avoiding DVD Burners until there is a complete standard, but if I decided to get one I would get one that burned both +RW and -RW technologies...not just one or the other (I'd get the TDK one)

I'd go with that NEC since it does both. Check the specs of the home players your going to use burnt discs on. There's several that won't read DVD+R, but will read DVD+RW. So if you get a + only drive, you'll need to use +RW blanks to work with...

Telexen, here's your standard:

Well I've been avoiding DVD burners because I can't afford one.

I'm really envious that you're price shopping one though. Hope you get one you like.

oops, sorry

I didn't choose to wait, but they should be worth the wait. Hopefully the price will drop quick.

I've got the Sony DRU-500AX. I use both +-R on it. It works great for burning home movies and backup. No problems with it so far. I had it about 4 months now.
